Overall, this song has been edited to where people do not understand the full truth about what was really going on. "In other words, Key was saying that the blood of all the former slaves and “hirelings” on the battlefield will wash away the pollution of the British invaders." This is saying that Key was happy the blacks were dying for helping out the British. Also many do not know that there were parts of the song that were removed because they knew that those parts would spark controversy and that is where the racism was said. The article states,"His troops were taken to the woodshed by the very black folks he disdained, and he fled back to his home in Georgetown to lick his wounds." You can just imagine that he is upset that he was basically defeated by black people.
This man has made a racist song based on the black people who were fighting for their freedom. In the article, it talks about a man named Francis Scott Key. After reading "Star-Spangled Bigotry: The Hidden Racist History of the National Anthem" I now have a deeper understanding of what the song actually means. This song has a much deeper meaning to it than people actually think.
I personally feel that the "Star-Spangled Banner" is a racist and war song.
